Ok, typically I keep my rant postings to one a week, but I have just seen something that Matt pointed out back when the New Orleans / Katrina issue was all over the news. Matt told me he was going to be upset if the gas prices continue to rise but yet the oil companies post profits. Well, it happened.
Though gas prices have been high for quite some time, we saw a spike in prices, here in the United States, right after Hurricane Katrina hit. At the time, Bill O’Reilly put forth the challenge that oil companies should sacrifice a small percentage of their profits toward helping Katrina victims as well as lowering the price of gas in this country. I was all for that, but of course oil companies are greedy bastards so why would they every consider an option like that?
So it does not surprise me when I saw these two articles sitting near each other:
Consumers could face price spikes at pump and then this one: BP Reports 3rd-Quarter Profit Up 34 Pct.
So let me get this straight, while we, the people, are facing rising gas costs, companies like BP are reporting quaterly profits of 34%? What!
Someone do the math for me here, I was never good at math. Some things just don’t add up except for oil companies being greedy bastards. Maybe that is all the math we need.
Rant over.
