How to Excercise your Biceps

To live a longer and healthier life, it is very important for you to get exercise and stay in shape, and of course, eat healthy. You can help stay in shape by lifting weights on a regular basis. There are many different forms of weight lifting. Each from works different muscles in different ways. Amongst the most important muscles to keep in shape are the biceps. The biceps are what you use when lifting heavy boxes or pushing something along.

A great way to exercise your biceps is by doing Barbell curls. The barbell curl specifically targets your bicep. Be especially careful if you have elbow or lower back problems because this exercise exerts a lot of stress on those areas.

            To get started, hold a barbell with an underhand grip and your hands about shoulder width apart. Stand with your feet as wide as your hips and let your arms hang down so that the bar is in front of your thighs. Stand up straight with your knees relaxed and mentally prepare yourself for the actual lifting. It is important to stay focused while "pumping iron" because any distraction can cause you to drop the weights and cause injury.

To do the Barbell curl, bend your arms to curl the bar almost up to your shoulder, then, slowly lower the bar to the starting position. The lowering part of the exercise helps greatly add bulk and tone, so it is important not you just let your arms drop.

            Alternative ways to work the Biceps include The Cable Bicep Curl, which instead of using a large bar that is not very portable; you use a bungee cable with handles on each end. Stand on the middle of the cable and pull up on the handles as though you were holding the barbell.

Another way to work the biceps is by the duel bar curl. In this exercise, you have two individual bars with X amount of weights on each one. Instead of curling them both at the same time, you alternate in a consistent pattern between the two arms. This way, if one arm is too tired to continue, you don't have to stop the exercise like you would with a 2hand barbell. Instead you can continue with the hand that can continue lifting for a longer period of time while giving the other a rest.

            Whichever method you choose, it will certainly keep you healthy and keep you body shape at its pinnacle.
