How to Unfreeze Your Doorlock

Posted by: neo2525

During winter times, the cold weather may not be the biggest problem. If you leave your car outside for even just a couple of hours, you may come back to find the door lock has frozen. No matter how many times you try to put your key in and turn, the lock won't budge. This can cause lots of frustration and make you late for wherever it is you are heading. There are however a few ways to prevent this from ever being a problem

If per say you are coming out of the mall and you walk to your car and the lock is frozen, instead of sitting around hoping for it to unfreeze, there is a simple and easy way to solve the problem. Firstly find someone who has either a lighter or a match. Then, once lit, hold the flame beneath the metal section of the key for about ten to fifteen seconds so that the key becomes very hot. Immediately after doing so, place the key in the lock and hold it there for another ten seconds. By doing so you are melting the ice which is preventing the lock from spinning, and you are now able to turn they key and unlock the car.

There are also alternative ways to unlock your car's door locks. Many stores carry a spray can which when sprayed on your car lock, melts the ice and allows you to open the door. It is more effective than heating the car key; however it is also more expensive.

Also, if you are looking to never have to deal with frozen locks your can do so by buying a high end car. Many expensive cars such as the BMW M5, have a feature that constantly keeps your door locks heated. This prevents any ice from forming and you are not required to do any work. You should only have this feature on the car if you live in a location where it is cold for a large portion of the year. Otherwise, you would be wasting car battery because the locks are always being heated regardless of the temperature outside.

It is very important to have some way to de-freeze your car locks to prevent any unwanted delay, whether it be heating a key, buying a product, or having a car do it for you. If not, you may find yourself in a situation where knowing how to unfreeze your locks can save you much needed time.
