Rant coming…

There comes a time in our lives when our daily complaints pale in comparison to the life other people may be going through.

Right now, the people in the south (Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama) are going through some of the worst conditions known to man. Their city is underwater, their homes are gone, their relatives are dead, their possessions are gone, looters are rampant, and armed individuals are trying to take over hospitals and shooting officers, and this is just the beginning because of Hurricane Katrina’s damages.

With rising waters, people dying every few minutes, upcoming water born disease and structural damage beyond repair, there is nothing in our daily lives that we should verbally complain about. If you want to have a conversation in your head about something bothering you, then fine, but don’t, for one second begin complaining about issues in your personal life that pale in comparison to the lives of those in the south. If you spilled food on the carpet, if your dog crapped in your house, if your car battery died, etc… Those do not compare.

I was listening to Neil Boortz this afternoon which inspired me to write this post / rant. He popped the idea about this post into my head because he was saying the exact same thing. Don’t complain. You think you have it bad in your life, but in reality, your life is a cake walk compared to those that were affected by Hurricane Katrina’s wrath.

Troubles are ahead

You need to fully make yourself aware that there are troubles on their way. Economically, financially, and globally, there are problems that are on the way. Rising gas prices is one of them. Suck it up and deal with it. This is not a ‘blame Bush’ category. This is the simple fact that many of our oil refineries in the Gulf of Mexico are not working or were damaged due to this hurricane. We are going to be paying much higher prices for gas because of this hurricane. Be prepared and accept it. Don’t complain. 9 times out of 10, the problems we complain about are small and worthless, especially when sat next to that of someone who has lost their relatives, home, possessions and more in a matter of days.

Looters

Unless they are taking food or medical supplies, all looters should be shot on site. It is crazy that people are taking advantage of a damaged society and city on non-food items. I can understand trying to survive and that you need medical aid and/or food. Fine. However, TV's, Ipods, electrical equipment for fun, etc… is not necessary and those items should be left alone. What is worse is that many of these looters are armed and dangerous. One cop was shot in the face. Looters broke into a Children’s hospital and who knows how that turned out. Several more stormed a police station with AK-47’s. Huh?

What is wrong with these people? I like the concept: Shoot first, ask questions later. I have no problem with someone shooting at a looter unless the looter is stealing food. Not necessarily to kill the looter, but to maim him/her.

You know, the guy who wrote that is blunt, very blunt. But, he is right, to an extent. I would never wish pain among people, but, there is a good amount of people who chose to ‘ride it out’ and had the means to leave, and now, they are stuck on the roof of their house. There was plenty of warning.
