Tips for taking responsibility for your own actions

If there is one thing I have noticed an increase of in the United States, and even our world, it is that finger pointing is becoming more rampant. To explain even further, people are blaming others more then themselves. It comes down to accepting responsibility for your actions.

Whether you are on a sports team, working in a company, running for President, or screwing up at home with the spouse, you need to own up to your faults and find a solution to fix them.

Politics is probably the largest arena for finger pointing in the world. Politicians are so dirty, sleazy, and uncaring, many of them never own up to their faults, whether it’s Clinton dodging “affair” questions or Bush dealing with his war policies. (this is not a place for political talk, so keep it to a minimum)

The same goes for your personal life. Stubbornness is a word that comes to mind here. Many individuals in a relationship are stubborn when it comes to decision making or even sacrifice.

People don’t realize how much better and smoother life can be if you merely OWN up to your faults.

Here are a few tips to help you “OWN” up

  • Say you are sorry - If you are wrong, admit it immediately and say you are sorry. Too many disagreements or arguments could be solved by merely admitting you were wrong. Families get torn apart simply because a relative never wanted to say they’re sorry. Is pride really
  • Find a solution - After admitting you were wrong, find a solution to fix the matter. They always say, “Right your wrongs”.
  • Don’t delay - It is very important to not delay taking responsibility for your actions. The longer time passes, the more people you may hurt, disrespect, or lose friendships/partnerships with.

Some/all of these may seem like common sense, but we often forget some of the simplest ways to accomplish the good in our society.

The more you “own up” to your faults, the more likely people will respect you, take your word, and even do business with you.
